This week, major Estonian tech companies are recommending that employees take a ten-minute break at a time of their choosing so that they can elect their parliament over the internet instead of going through the hassle of driving to the station on the Election Day.

TransferWise Raises $58 Million

TransferWise, which was started by Kristo Käärmann and Taavet Hinrikus in 2011 and whose backers also include Peter Thiel’s Valar Ventures and Richard Branson, said it would use the new money to start offering its foreign currency services next month in United States, where it has partnered with an undisclosed financial institution, according to a company spokeswoman.

Estonian Taxify raised €1.4 to expand in Central and Eastern Europe

The ambition to expand into four new countries helped the Estonian-founded taxi app, Taxify, raise €1.4 million in funding from multiple international investors – Adcash (one of the world’s largest advertising networks), Rubylight (the investor of and Odnoklassniki) and the London-based investment fund, TMT Investments.
